College of Engineering Advising and Registration Assistance
Faculty Advisors will review transfer credits posted in MyºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú and provide Fall 2025 course recommendations. These recommendations will be provided (via your ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú email) prior to your Advising and Registration date. The ESSC Advising team will provide brief first-semester general virtual advising and scheduling assistance on each student's dedicated Advising & Registration date listed above.
Please note that Major/Faculty Advisors have limited availability and may not be available to assist before your Advising & Registration date. Additionally, dedicated major advising and long-term academic planning will be available during the Spring semester.
FAQ: SOAR Advising and Registration
Incoming Fall 2025 transfer students can register for classes beginning at 9 a.m. on their designated Advising and Registration date.
When students sign up for SOAR, they are automatically assigned an Advising & Registration Date. Email communications with additional information, including meeting logistics, will be sent out as the date approaches.
If you do not receive the email one week before your Advising and Registration date, please contact coe-advising@csulb.edu.
Transfer students will receive their Fall 2025 course recommendations from their assigned Faculty Advisor 1-2 days before their Advising and Registration date.
If you do not receive your course recommendations the day before your registration date, and you have already checked both your ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú and personal email inboxes, contact our office at coe-advising@csulb.edu for additional support.
Faculty Advisors use the Transfer Credit Report, in MyºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú Student Center, to create course recommendations.
If you're transferring from a non-California Community College (such as a 4-year, private, or out-of-state institution) or have unarticulated courses, additional evaluation by your advisor may be required. Please note that similar course titles do not guarantee equivalent content.
Faculty Advisors will need to evaluate each non-articulated major course to determine a possible substitution or equivalency. To assist, they may request that you provide additional information such as syllabi, course descriptions, etc. You may need to follow-up with your Faculty Advisor if further information is required.
If you require updated course recommendations, you must attend your Advising and Registration meeting and upon check-in, mention you were potentially recommended a course currently in progress/already taken. You will be directed to meet with a Faculty Advisor for updated course recommendations.
Advising and Registration Appointments are optional, but highly encouraged. During this appointment, students will be able to meet with the ESSC Advising Team for registration assistance.

Incoming transfer students will have an opportunity to meet with an advisor during their designated Advising and Registration date. Advising appointments are only available for current/continuing students.

Admission to the College of Engineering is competitive as we continue to have more qualified applicants than available spaces. All transfer students must declare a major when submitting their admission application.
Given that transfer admission decisions are competitive and based on meeting applicable major-specific requirements, transfer students are not allowed to declare a COE major or even change majors within the college. In extremely rare circumstances, petitions to change majors to COE could be considered if student meets ALL of the following conditions:
- The student qualifies by meeting all major-specific requirements in the new major.
- The student demonstrates a progressively successful academic history that, in the judgment of Faculty Major Advisor, reflects potential success in the new major.
- The program currently has seats available to accommodate additional students.
Students interested in declaring a COE major must contact the Faculty Major Advisor for the intended major (see Faculty Advisor Contact Information above). Such requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and final approval is made by the COE Dean’s Office.
Students admitted to a COE major but are interested in declaring major in another college must inquire with the college of the intended major. Please be aware that major changes not guaranteed and may only be approved if:
- The student qualifies by meeting all major-specific requirements in the new major.
- The student demonstrates a progressively successful academic history that reflects potential success in the new major.
- The program currently has seats available to accommodate additional students.
Please be aware that requests are reviewed by the college of the potential new major, and the final decision is determined at the college-level associated with the requested new major.
Please see Undergraduate Advising Resources for contact information.
If you have previously accepted your offer of admission and have decided not to attend ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú, please follow the Cancel Admission instructions.
FAQ: Advising and Degree Planning
Department Faculty Advisors are the primary advising resource for transfer students. For more information regarding faculty advisors please click here: Undergraduate Advising Resources | California State University Long Beach
- Your Academic Requirements Report (ARR) is your official degree audit and will list all of your degree requirements. Please review your ARR before registering to determine your remaining requirements. After registering, check it again to make sure your new schedule accurately fulfills those requirements.
- Other tools, including the Degree Planner, can be useful for visualizing your courses but are not official records.
FAQ: Transfer Credit and Course Evaluation
View transfer credit in your MyºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú Student Center:
- Transfer Credit Report: shows all Transfer, AP, IB, CLEP, and Military Experience credits received by the University.
- Academic Requirements Report (ARR): shows how transfer credit applies toward your degree.
Note: Credit may not appear immediately for new students. If your ARR does not accurately reflect your transfer credit, contact your faculty advisor. This might include missing credit or credit that is not applied correctly to your requirements.
Upper-Division courses, including MATH 370A, are not directly articulated between community colleges and ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú. Additional evaluation by a faculty advisor would be required to determine if substitution credit is possible.
No, Engineering 101 and Engineering 102 are waived for transfer students.
Requirements for 1-unit major introductory courses vary by department. To determine if you are required to complete this course, check your Academic Requirements Report (ARR).
FAQ: General Education (GE) and Graduation Requirements
Your transfer courses may fulfill many GE requirements. However, even if you are fully GE certified, you may still need to complete additional GE requirements including:
- US History
- Constitution & American Ideals
For a list of your specific GE requirements, please review your Academic Requirement Report (ARR)
Many upper-division GE requirements are satisfied by major courses. It is best to contact an ESSC advisor for additional information regarding double-counting upper-division GE requirements.
GWAR is the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement, which ensures that all ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉú students are proficient in writing.
To satisfy the GWAR requirement, all students must complete 3-units of a designated Writing Intensive Course. Please visit the ESSC Advising Center for additional information regarding possible double-counting with an Upper-Division GE.
