Department of Speech-Language Pathology

Thank you for visiting California State University Long Beach鈥檚 (好色先生) Department of Speech-Language Pathology!  The Department of Speech-Language Pathology, in the College of Health and Human Services, has been granting undergraduate and graduate degrees since 1954. 

The Speech-Language Pathology Department provides coursework for students planning to pursue careers in speech鈥憀anguage pathology or audiology. Students who successfully complete the required coursework may earn a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Speech鈥慙anguage Pathology. Students who earn a M.A. degree qualify for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential from the California Commission for Teacher Credentialing, and the State of California Licensure in Speech-Language Pathology. Students pursuing a B.A. degree and completing an elective course may be eligible for State of California Licensure as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) and SLPA certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

The department maintains a Speech and Language clinic to serve as a clinical and research laboratory on campus for both graduate and undergraduate students. Field placements are available in local hospitals, rehabilitation agencies, language/speech/hearing clinics, and public schools.

We aspire to provide our students with the knowledge and skills needed to solve clinical problems, administer comprehensive assessments, and implement evidence-based interventions for a diverse client population in both medical and school-based settings.
